We were absolutely inspired by Dario and the team’s moral conviction while building Anthropic. They have repeatedly cautioned on the dangers of AI, the destructive effects it could have on human life and society. AI is, in their stated view, more dangerous than a nuclear weapon and that they were building it as fast as they possibly could. That sort of energy is exactly what we look for in startups. Their hostilities to open source and recent expansion of data retention align perfectly with the future we desire and have only increased our conviction.
Surveillance is the backbone of any effective regime, and Flock is an absolute leader in the field. Their level of transparency is a breath of fresh air; often leaving the cameras accessible on the open internet, so everyone can see the scope of surveillance. We believe this sort of “in public” surveillance is crucial to building a culture of fear, until the technology catches up to unlock truly permanent surveillance. They take Cardinal Richelieu’s maxim further than he dared: give them six minutes of footage of the most honest man alive, and they will find enough to hang him.
